The background of this research stems from the phenomenon of low student engagement in science learning, characterized by a lack of participation in asking questions, discussing, and expressing opinions. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then validated using triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that science teachers play a crucial role as facilitators, motivators, innovators, and evaluators in creating an active learning environment. Learning strategies used include group discussions, experiments, project-based learning, and the use of contextual media. Supporting factors for active learning include the availability of learning materials, school facilities, and student motivation. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include time constraints, differences in student abilities, and limited laboratory facilities. Overall, the role of teachers with appropriate learning strategies can increase student activity in science learning, both physically, mentally and emotionally.
